Expo Image Panorama | Philippine Pavilion: Dancing with Nature in the Light and Shadow

2025-08-22

The Expo 2025 Osaka features participation from 158 countries and regions, along with 7 international organizations. Numerous pavilions showcase their unique charm, each attracting visitors from around the world with their distinctive architectural styles and rich cultural depth. This offers a remarkable experience that fosters a profound dialogue with nature and culture.

The Philippine Pavilion, under the theme "Nature, Culture, and Community: Weaving a Better Future," skillfully blends traditional weaving artistry with green architectural principles. It combines the display of the Philippines' rich cultural diversity with engaging and joyful visitor interactions, providing a refreshing experience that intertwines architecture, nature, and culture.

The rattan weaving design of the Philippine Pavilion's exterior is uniquely distinctive. The entire structure resembles a massive woven art piece, meticulously crafted from over 1,000 rattan strands and adorned with 212 handwoven panels. These panels were created by artisans from communities across the Philippines, showcasing the rich diversity of the country's 18 major ethnolinguistic groups and serving as a profound tribute to the nation's weaving heritage.

Inside the pavilion, a meticulously designed segment titled "Dancing with Nature" proves particularly captivating. As visitors move from the "Culture" zone into this "Community"-themed area, they are greeted by a massive screen where the breathtaking natural landscapes of the Philippines unfold like a scroll: vast tropical rainforests, extensive coastlines, enchanting marine worlds, and richly diverse ecosystems. The natural scenery and vibrant diversity of the Philippine archipelago are vividly presented before the guests.

Against this stunning natural backdrop, an even more fascinating scene unfolds: visitors eagerly engage in interactive activities under the play of light and shadow. By simply standing in a designated area, their silhouettes are captured in real time and projected onto the wall, seamlessly blending with the natural elements on the screen—transforming into flowers, trees, or free-swimming fish. With a gentle wave of their arms, the plants on the screen sway in response; as they run or jump, the creatures in the projection frolic along. Regardless of age or gender, everyone is drawn to the captivating interactivity of this vibrant display, losing themselves in the moment as they dance intimately with nature and enjoy a uniquely delightful experience.

Behind the scenes of this immersive experience, three Epson 3LCD laser projectors ensure the delivery of high-quality imagery for the exhibition. Notably, these projectors are equipped with ultra-short-throw lenses, allowing participants to get up close and personal with their "artistic avatars." This creates the illusion that every visitor can almost reach out and break through the dimensional barrier with a simple lift of their hand.

Combining short projection distance with a large screen, the exhibit not only offers an exceptional experience for the audience but also stands out as a top-tier "premium solution" within the pavilion. The Epson projectors, featuring ultra-short-throw lenses, achieve flexible installation in compact and limited spaces thanks to their small form factor. Additionally, functions such as horizontal/vertical keystone correction, image rotation, shift, and zoom simplify the calibration process, offering strong adaptability and compatibility. These features make them highly favored for tailoring customized visual solutions in exhibition settings.

Moreover, Epson's 3LCD projection products utilize their proprietary core technology, which features an ingeniously designed color reproduction system—a real-time full-color imaging mechanism. This grants Epson projectors a unique advantage: color brightness equal to white brightness, resulting in sharper and more vibrant visuals, smooth and natural color gradations, and the absence of flickering or rainbow effects. With outstanding color performance and stable image quality, Epson projection products are preferred by users across a wide range of applications and play a significant role in the imaging industry.

Filled with joy and profound meaning, "Dancing with Nature" was meticulously curated by renowned experience designers, serving as the highlight of the Philippine Pavilion's journey interweaving nature and culture at the World Expo. The immersive atmosphere, crafted through light and shadow, seamlessly incorporates natural and cultural elements, allowing visitors to lose themselves in the experience—exploring wondrous natural landscapes and sensing the joy of harvest and survival. Not only does it fully showcase the natural charm and ecological wisdom of the Philippine archipelago, but it also seeks to convey a sense of reverence and love for nature. As part of the ecosystem, the preservation of culture also requires the dedication and participation of every individual.
